U-16 v Ballaghadreen & Intermediate v Mayo Gaels match reports

November 8, 2018

The U-16 team played at home to Ballaghadereen on Tuesday evening and were defeated by 5-12 to 4-11 in an entertaining league game. In a game in which Davitts appeared to come out the wrong side of a number of dodgy refereeing decisions, Gerard McWalter, Donnacha Geraghty, Clive Hennigan, Mark Ronayne, Jason Connolly and Darren Connolly starred for the home side. Team: David Mitchell, Gerard McWalter, Brian Clarke, Anthony McLoughlin, Donnacha Geraghty, John Macken, Clive Hennigan (3-2), Mark Ronayne (0-1), Jason Connolly (0-3), Darren Connolly (1-3), Cathal Higgins, Andrew Peters (0-1), Sean Waldron. Sub used: Tommy Waldron (0-1).

The Intermediate team hosted Mayo Gaels in the O Mara Cup on Tuesday evening and won, 2-13 to 3-6 in a good open game. The sides were level, 1-4 apiece, at the break, and while Davitts always appeared to have the upper hand, they found the Gaels spirited challenge very difficult to overcome. The Davitts attack was very lively in this game, with Aidan McTigue in particular, in flying form. Others to shine for Davitts were goalie Paddy Kirrane, Kevin Gallagher, Johnno Clarke, Pat Coyne, captain Paul Carey, Seamus Roche and Richie Kilkenny, who had a blinder when introduced in the second half. It was very encouraging from a Davitts point of view to see a squad of 23 players togged out. We are already without the five travellers (Messers Conroy, Cummins, Healy, Moran and Prendergast, currently in hard training Down Under), have lost Ronan McNamara (cruciate) and Keith Glynn (groin) for the season, and have Frankie Barrett, Maurice Prendergast, David McDonagh, Fergal McGrath and Michael Ronayne all struggling to be fit for the championship clash with Belmullet. Davitts team: Paddy Kirrane, Tommy Nolan, Kieran Kirrane, Kevin Gallagher, Johnno Clarke (0-2), Pat Coyne, Derek Mooney, Paul Carey (0-3), Shane Mitchell, Carlos O Gara (0-1), Seamus Roche (0-1), Colm Roche, Liam Kearns (0-1), Aidan McTigue (2-3), Keith Prendergast (0-1). Subs used: Noel Reapy, Richie Kilkenny (0-1), Tommy Mitchell and Martin Cosgrove.
