U12 'A' Football Championship

November 8, 2018

Last Wednesday evening the Edenderry U12 A Football team travelled to Clara to take on the home team in the first round of the championship.

Clara started brightly and scored the first two points of the game before Edenderry opened their account with a well worked point from Jordan Hayes after good play from David Maloney and Conor Groome. David Maloney equalised a few minutes later before Conor Farrell finished to the net after an initial save from the goalkeeper. Conor followed this up with a well taken point and Jordan Hayes took advantage of confusion in the Clara defence to fist home Edenderry’s second goal. Clara hit back with 1-01 to reduce the arrears before Andrew Maloney steadied things for Edenderry with a point. Clara then took control of the game and scored another 1-02 to lead by one point. Conor Farrell equalied with an excellent point and Clara retook the lead just before half time with another point.

Half Time Edenderry 2-05 Clara 2-06

Edenderry opened the second half very strongly with points by Lee Hyland and Andrew Maloney before Aaron Holt scored Edenderry’s third goal to leave Edenderry four points in front. Clara kicked two excellent points to reduce the arrears before Conor Farrell again kicked two points. Clara then scored a goal to leave the minimum between the sides. A Jordan Hayes point was to be Edenderry’s last score and despite intense pressure from Clara and a lengthy period of injury time, Edenderry conceded only one additional point to ensure a winning start to the championship.
