U12's WIn Thriller

St Broughan’s……5-02

Last Saturday morning in Bracknagh, Edenderry U12 footballers played St Broughan’s in a fantastic game of football. After a very exciting game, Edenderry squeezed past by two points on a scoreline of 1-16 to 5-02.

Lee Hyland opened the scoring for Edenderry when he sent the ball over from a tight angle, after a good ball from Jordan Hayes. St Broughan’s then had the ball in the Edenderry net from their first attack of the game to take the lead. But Edenderry soon cancelled out that goal with three points to regain the lead. Conor Farrell scored the first from a free, and Jordan Hayes scored the second and third. St Broughan’s then had a good period of dominance as they scored three goals and a point without reply. But Edenderry never panicked as they continued to kick their points. Conor Farrell scored an excellent point, after a great pass from Conor Groome. Lee Hyland then scored his second point of the game with a good shot. Jordan Hayes added his third point, before Conor Farrell finished the scoring for the first half when he converted a free which was awarded for a push on Lee Hyland.

At the start of the second half Edenderry scored an unanswered seven points to level the game. Lee Hyland sent over two points, the first came from distance, while he fisted the second over the bar. Conor Groome kicked a brilliant point, before Conor Farrell converted a free. Jordan Hayes then kicked the score of the game when he sent a booming shot over the bar from long range. St Broughan’s then got their noses back in front with a point from a free, before Jordan Hayes scored Edenderry’s only goal of the game to put them in front. St Broughan’s then cancelled out that score when they scored their fifth goal of the game. But yet again Edenderry responded with quality points, the first came from Jordan Hayes, the second came from Conor Groome after a good run, and the third came from Conor Farrell after good work from Lee Hyland and Andrew Moloney. With time running out, and two points down, St Broughan’s went in search of their sixth goal to save the game. But right at the end Jack Kelly made a great save and clearance to the delight of his team mates, as the referee blew the final whistle.

Just like the U14 side, the U12’s put in a great team performance. Despite the concession of five goals, they were able to respond each time with great points. Edenderry’s final group game will be at home to St Vincent’s on Saturday 29th August at 11.00am.
