u14 girls community games county final

November 7, 2018

Many congratulations to our under 14 community games team on winning the county final title on Saturday 27th of May in Semple Stadium 🏆. The game was an incredibly close encounter for the 50 minutes and the Drangan/Cloneen girls having to dig deep several times throughout the game to get over a very determined Moycarkey team. The first half saw Moycarkey start the stronger and play the better football, converting 6 points from play, whereas the Drangan/Cloneen girls whilst they had several opportunities, failed to covert with the exception of a well taken goal by Jessica Strappe. Half time score: Drangan/Cloneen 1.0 Moycarkey 0.6. The second half saw Moycarkey get on the scoreboard first with a goal and a point and all of a sudden, with only 12 minutes of the game remaining the Drangan/Cloneen girls found themselves 7 points down. The tide started to turn, with the Drangan/Cloneen girls all upping their workrate and the scores started to come with points from Jessica Strappe, Siobhan O'Hanlon and a goal and a point from Eabha Hogan and with the final whistle only seconds away, Siobhan O'Hanlon blasted over her second point to even the scoresheet at full time mark: Drangan/Cloneen 2.4 Moycarkey 1.7. The game then entered into extra time of 10 minutes. The Moycarkey girls were again first out of the blocks and scored a goal and a point in quick succession and with only 6 minutes left, the Drangan/Cloneen girls were going to have to do it the hard way and claw back a four point deficit. Our girls certainly left their best performance to the last few minutes and went on to hit the Moycarkey net on three ocassions with goals from Isabelle Hayden, Eabha Hogan and Ava Heffernan. Final score after extra time: Drangan/Cloneen 5.4 Moycarkey 2.9. Team: Katie Power, Gemma Gahan, Laura Murphy, Rachel Butler, Isabelle Hayden (1.0), Erin O Brien, Eabha Hogan (2.1) (c), Kileen Ryan, Jess Strappe (1.1), Ava Heffernan (1.0), Siobhan O'Hanlon (0.2), Sadhbh Morrissey, Niamh Boland, Mia O'Dywer, Clodagh Horan and Karol Ryan.

Our thanks to Moycarkey for an enthralling and exciting game & acknowledgement that most of their girls had played earlier in the day in the camogie final. No doubt we will cross paths later in the year, in the u14 championship! Many thanks to the many supporters who came to cheer on the girls. A special thanks to our local community games coordinators especially Valerie Boland, for her hard work behind the scenes. The final thanks is to all 16 girls who never stopped working and didn't give up, even when the game at times seemed to going away for them. You done your parents, coaches, club and parish proud 🖤💛.
