U14 Hurlers Update

With two challenges played – with mixed performances – our U14 hurlers are going in the right direction, but with a serious amoount of work left to do to get ready for championship.

On Saturday week last we entertained Ardrahan in the pitch with our neighbours coming out on top by 6-0 to 0-4. A poor opening half saw Ardrahan score four goals, and that left an uphill battle for our lads. However we did try to get back into the game, but lack of concentration, poor striking, and general rustiness was the downfall.

Earlier today in Killanena they had a chance to bounce back against Feakle-Killanena. The home side were up for this game and played some lovely first half hurling to lead 2-6 to 0-6, allbeit with the wind advantage. The Kinvara lads upped their game in the second half and ran home winners 4-11 to 2-06, keeping the home side scoreless in the second half.

In each of their games that management played all players and subs. This shows the strength of the squad with 24 players seriously competing for the starting fifteen. Rarely does that occur, but it will surely be testing times for the management team selection ahead. Although things improved today, their is still a lot to learn for this bunch of players. Some players have their own personal skills to improve on, as too often today we failed to catch the high ball, rise it and were again too easily blocked.

For the record the team today was

John Donoghue, Rory O’Dwyer, Ollie Niland, Mark Deegan, Keelan O’Rourke, Shane Byrne, Dylan O’Rourke, James O’Hara, Conor Whelan 3-8, James Cronin, Ronan Kilkelly 1-2,  Sean Linnane, Finn Kearns, Gery Kilkelly, Eanna Mongon 0-1.

Subs that came on were – Patrick Whelan, Eoin Whelan, Liam Byrne, Thomas Fordham, Thomas Kavanagh, Joe Tully and Alan Linnane. Missing sick were Ritchie Mitchell and Alan Keane.

Note: a welcome addition to the squad this year is John Donohue from Trellick. He started his first game in the Kinvara colours today and we wish him all the best in the purple and gold
