U14's do Greenfields proud.

November 8, 2018

Great credit is due to Ciaran Delaney, who single-handedly runs the U14 Cup competition. This year, it was held in Athlone on Saturday February 2nd. Greenfields entered three teams, one in the A Cup & two in the B Cup.

Molly Kelly-Greally from Greenfields U14C team, was on target, scoring two goals in the final to win the under 14B Cup. The team qualified by beating Athlone 2 nil in the semi-final, with goals from Anna O’Hara and Ellen Burke. This win was a great achievement for such a young team most of whom are still under 12. Every girl played to their part in the win. Excellent hockey was on display. Huge credit to coach Aedin Pagden who has nurtured this team for the past three seasons.

Greenfields U14B team were very unlucky to loose their B Cup semi-final after penalty strokes. They played with great determination and were very disappointed not to make it an all-Greenfields final. Big performances by Andrea Quinn, Emily Kavanagh, Ava Barrett and Grace O’Connor. Meadbh twomey converted good sequence of play with a fine goal.
In the A cup, Greenfields U14 A were beaten by homeside Athlone. Hardwork in midfield by Eva mannion, Eadaoin Kennedy and Eve McLoughin just could not produce a goal. All the team lifted their performance and despite an honest work rate could not breakdown the Athlone defense.

Thanks to team mentors Cliona Kennedy, Aedin Padgen, Jean Hutchinson and Elizabeth Colleran, who travelled with the team, and to Yvette Quinn and Jean Mackey who were on hand in Athlone.
