U14s Get off to good start in Offaly League

November 8, 2018

A very good win on our first outing. Captain for the day was Eoin Dunne and he selected to play against the very strong wind in the first half.

It took us a little while to come to terms with that wind and a few balls were harmlessly dropped into the goalie's hands. Once we started working the ball into the inside full forward line, the scores followed.

Building on some solid defending in the full back line, strong ball winning and running from the half backs and midfield, and great interplay between the half forwards and full forwards, the team racked up a score of 2-9 before half time.

Starting Team:

Gary Gorman
Jack Guing
Jack Brady
Bobby Reynolds
Conor Maher
Eoin Dunne
Shane Cummins
Gary Farrell
Josh McConnell
Sean Maher
Stephen McNamee
Conor McCarthy
Ciaran Nolan
Cian Farrell
Ciaran Breen

We used the half time break to introduce all the subs from the bench.

Starting Team in the Second Half

Gary Gorman
Dan McGuire
Jack Brady
Cian Harris
Jack Costello
Eoin Dunne
Josh Perry
Gary Farrell
Josh McConnell
Aaron Mangan
Stephen McNamee
Ryan Glynn
Ciaran Nolan

Ciaran Breen

If anything, the introduction of seven new players strengthened the team. Playing with the wind now, we continued to play some lovely football and resisted the temptation to kick aimless high ball into the forwards. Another 2-08 was scored in this half while only conceding one goal at the other end.

Well done everyone. Great start to the year but you'll know yourselves that there is plenty for us to work on. Not every game will be this straight forward. We need to keep the numbers high at training.

There could be a great year ahead and we need everyone.

Scorers:
