U14s lose County semi-final

November 8, 2018

Edenderry U14's crashed out of the championship with a three point defeat to St Vincents in Walsh Island on Saturday afternoon. Played in high winds and good spirits, St Vincent's were the stronger team on the day and were deserving of their win.

St Vincents had a great start to the game and with just three minutes gone they had raced into a 1-1 to no score lead. Edenderry responded with a pointed free from midfielder Lee Hyland on six minutes and four minutes later Stevie Osborne pointed his first of the day. Two points in the space of a minute stretched Vincent's lead to five points but it was Edenderry who finished the half the strongest with points from Stevie Osborne and Jordan Hayes. Vincent's failed to score after the thirteenth minute but the reds still trailed by two points at half time.

Half time:
Edenderry 0-4
St Vincent's 1-3

Conor Farrell pointed from a free just forty five seconds into the second half to leave just one between the sides. However the opening ten minutes belonged to St Vincent's and in a three minute spell they registered three points to give them a four point cushion, one from a very impressive free on the sideline. Stevie Osborne scored his third point of the game in the tenth minute after the goalie made a great save from a Jordan Hayes shot. Again Vincent's hit back with a excellent point from more than forty yards from goals. There would be ten minutes before the next score but it came for Edenderry in the twenty second minute when Conor Farrell made an excellent side step and shot with his left foot, sending the ball to the back of the net. There was now just one point between the sides but two late bizzarre decisions allowed Vincent's to score two free's in the final five minutes to secure the win by three points.
