U18 Interpro Tournament

November 8, 2018

The Interprovincial tournaments, or “Interpro’s” as they are commonly referred to, are claimed to be the oldest hockey tournament in the world, with their roots stretching back well into the 19th Century and are played at multiple levels – senior, junior, U21, U18 and U16.

Congratulations to five of our Greenfields players, who have been selected to represent Connacht at the U18 Interpros. The tournament takes place this weekend, Nov 22nd & 23rd, at the Garryduff Sports Centre, Cork City.

Orla Callanan, Katie Codyre, Brenda Flannery, Dora Gorman and Lesley O’Flynn are hoping to do their club & province proud, as they battle it out against Ulster, Munster, Leinster & South East.

The tournament follows a Round Robin format, and is an important date in the Irish hockey calendar as it is used as selection mechanism for the eight international squads that Ireland currently fields. Hence, the interpro’s commonly showcase the cream of Irish hockey talent, all keen to impress watching national coaches.  Manager Finola McGuinness, along with Coach Richie Malone, and Assistant Coach Ciara Delaney are very confident of the squad’s potential for this weekend.

Indeed, our talented players have been spotted previously, and Greenfields are very proud of our four U18 International players Katie Codyre, Brenda Flannery, Dora Gorman & Irene Gorman (Formerly of Greenfields, and currently playing for TCD).
