U21 Championship

November 8, 2018

Two weeks ago Aghada came from 4 points down in injury time to snatch a draw in their game against us in the U-21 ‘B’ Hurling Championship. The replay of this fixture was penciled in for Carrigtwohill last Saturday night but at Aghada’s request it was changed to Tuesday night in Rathcormac. Sometimes replays can be one-sided and so it turned out on Tuesday night.

From the throw in our lads were well on top. Though Aghada had the first point, Colm O’Keeffe soon put us ahead with a good goal. Two points apiece from Daniel Dooley and Alan O’Keeffe gave us a great start. With Liam Forde in top form in defence we were well over Aghada in all sectors. A goal from Daniel Dooley put us 2-4 to 0-1 ahead after 20 minutes. Four more points from Michael Collins, Shane Murphy (2) and Stephen Boyce left 2-8 to 0-1 ahead at the break.
Last year in our game against Cloyne we led by 4 goals at the break but ended up level. There was no fear of a repeat on Tuesday night however. In the second half we hit a further 9 points, four from Michael Collins (2 from frees), two apiece from Michael Kearney and Alan O’Keeffe and one from Daniel Dooley. Aghada got 3 points (2 from frees) to leave the final score at 2-17 to 0-4. A great win and a good performance and ‘twas great to see each and every player put in a top class effort. Once players do this, you can’t ask for more. Well done lads.
