Under 14 London Trip

November 8, 2018

On St Patrick’s weekend Edenderry GAA under 14 hurlers and footballers travelled to London thanks to the generous sponsorship of John, Marie and Orla Foley of Accelerated Drain Cleaning. The trip came about as a result of an invitation from John O’Neill at Feile 2008 to our under 14’s to travel to London to take part in the St Patrick’s Day Parade.

On Saturday morning the lads played a game of football against London which they emerged as winners as expected. They then travelled to Ruislip where they had their dinner and watched the National Football League game between London and Waterford. When that game finished Edenderry played London in an entertaining game of hurling which London came out on top, but Edenderry have shown huge signs of improvement from last years encounter.

Later that night all players, mentors and families from both sides went back to the Ruislip clubhouse where they were fed again, and each player was presented with a plaque commemorating the games played.

Edenderry and London then exchanged mementos of the weekends events, with Edenderry’s John Kelliher receiving a glass piece from John O’Neill, and later Garrett Reilly presented London’s John O’Neill with his memento.
John O’Neill also presented Edenderry captain Jason Farrell with a hurley signed by all the London players from the weekend.
London official and Clara native Kevin Kelly presented a man of the match award to an Edenderry player and a London player from the hurling match. Peter Connolly won Edenderry’s man of the match, while Jack Doyle was London’s man of the match.

On Monday the team walked into Harrow town, where they did a bit of shopping before they got a bus back to Luton airport to head for home. On the way to the airport the bus stopped off outside Wembley Stadium where everyone took lots of photographs.

Overall it was a most enjoyable weekend and created memories that will live long in the minds of all involved. All players are to be commended for the manner in which they represented Edenderry GAA, the town and their parents over the whole weekend. They are a credit to the club and each player should be proud of their part in making this trip such a success.
