St Patrick's Under 14 Hurling Team South champions

Congratulations to our under 14 hurlers (pictured above) on defeating Carrick Davins in a hard fought south final on thursday evening last and there by completing the south double having won the football earlier in the year. This was a tough fought game with little between the sides. St. Pat's hurled the better hurling in the first half but scores were hard fought and only led by 2 points at half-time. Carrick davins opened the second half with a well taken goal which really put it up to our boys but St. Pats battled hard and got back level with only five minutes remaining. A free pointed for Davins put them back in the lead and in deed they had a number of chances to finish off the game at this stage but they failed to capitalize on them. Time seemed to be running out for St. Pat's as the game went into injury time but in a last drive for a score team captain Conor Duggan ran through the carrick defence and even though he was blocked and hooked on three occassions he still managed to regain possession and his shot though blocked by the davins goalie crossed the line and a goal given. The puckout was collected by Frank Meagher and sent back in over the bar for another point which put us three ahead as the referee blew the final whistle. For the Carrick boys it was heartbreak as it looked as if they had this one in the bag but for St. Pat's it was a case of the game isn't over until the final whistle blows and what is so often the case games can be won in the dying seconds. They now go on to represent the south in the county semi-final and hopefully they can go all the way and win a county title.
Junior Hurling
Our Junior A hurlers played their South Semi-Final last Sunday afternoon in Cahir. After losing at this stage for the last 2 years our lads were hoping to go a step further and reach the South Final. The first half was a tight affair with nothing between the teams until Tony O' Brien goaled in the latter stages of the half to leave us leading at half- time 1-7 to 0-6. We started the second half with a real purpose and landed some great scores. Fr Sheehys had no answer to our play and a further goal by Brendan Gleeson put the result beyond doubt as we ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-17 to 0-10. We will now play our old rivals Skeheenarinka in the South Final which will take place on Sunday 14th sptember at 1 pm. This game will be the curtainraiser for the south senior Hurling final between Killenaule and Mullinahone. Our junior B hurlers play carrick swan in the south quarter final in Fethard on Sat 13th Sept at 3 pm.
Juvenile News
On Monday week last our under 12 hurlers defeated Moyle Rovers by 6-6 to 3-7 in the first round of the South Tipperary hurling championship. The team was: Jack Cuddihy, Ryan Crannitch, Thomas O’Brien, Evan White, Aidan Fitzgerald, Keith Morrissey, Jamie Brett, Robert Barton, Matthew McCormack, Cathal Foley, Tom Hayden, Jack Cleere, Denis Clancy, Luke Fox, Luke Butler, Cian Crannitch.
On Monday Sept 8th they play Clerihan at 6.30 pm in Clerihan.
Under 16
On Monday week last our under 16 hurlers suffered a defeat at the hands of Carrick Swans in Anner Park Cloneen on a score of 4-13 to 2-11.
The team was: Michael Boland, Nathan Costin, Ross McCormack, Brian Anglim, Jack Ward, Niall Keane, Barry O’Dwyer, Jack Dolan, Eoin O’Donovan, Eoin Ryan, Joey Noonan, Shane Hannigan, Harry Butler, Jamie Broderick, Liam Quigley, Frank Meagher, Tim Daly, Nial Mockler.
Under 14 regional championship
On this Thursday 4th sept we join forces with Killenaule and Fethard to take part in the under 14 regional competition for the Michael O’Dwyer Memorial Trophy. Our first game will be against Ballingarry in O’Sullivan Park, Ballingarry at 6.15. On Thursday 11th September we play St. Mary’s in Anner Park Cloneen at 6.15 and we travel to Cahir on Thursday 18th September. We are at home to Moyle Rovers on Thursday 25th September and travel to Carrick on Suir for a game against Carrick Swans on Sunday 5th October. We wish the St. Pats players who are selected for this team the best of luck.
St Patrick's Ladies GAA Club
Under 8's
Well done to Catriona Boland and Shiela Butler along with our under 8 girls who hosted another night of their local blitz. They have worked very hard with these girls who in return played super on Thursday evening last in Cloneen against Clerihan, Clonmel Commercials, Fethard and Moyle Rovers. These under 8 girls are a mighty team and if they continue to improve as they are doing I am not sure what will stop in years to come. Thanks to everyone who came to support the young girls that will backbone our small club in years to come. Well done one and all.
Under 12
Our under 12 team hosted Moyle Rovers in their final round league game on Thursday evening past in Anner Park Cloneen. This was an extremely enjoyable and evenly balanced game, which saw good displays of football from both sets of girls over the 40 minutes. St. Patrick's went in at half time one point up on a scoreline of 1 goal (Eabha Fitzgerald) to Moyle Rovers 2 points. The second half was a tight affair, with Moyle Rovers scoring a well taken goal & two points. St Patrick's stayed in the game with a goal by Erin O'Brien & a point from Eabha Fitzgerald. Final score ended all square: St. Patrick's 2.1, Moyle Rovers 1.4. We are awaiting to hear arrangements for league play offs. Well done to all the girls and u12 mentors who part in the ice bucket challenge after the match. The annual Under 10 and 12 Parish League set for Sunday 21st of September at 12 midday in Anner Park Cloneen.
Junior Team
The junior ladies team's year came to an end on Sunday evening, with defeat against Thurles Sarsfields in the junior C quarter final. Thurles Sarsfields scored three goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game, which proved to be a huge challenge for St Patrick's Ladies to come back from. The St Patrick's ladies battled hard over the next 50 minutes, however they were beaten by a better team on the evening. Final score: St. Patrick's 0.5, Thurles Sarsfields 6.2. The junior ladies team would like to sincerely thank Helen Hogan and Thomas Grincell for all their work and efforts over the past 6 months and whilst a championship title didn't come our way this year, the team benefited hugely in playing in the C league & didn't come away empty handed by winning the C league title.
Congratulations to Pat Morrissey Club Chairman who was a selector on the county u16 girls management team who won the All Ireland u16B final on Sunday past.
All Ireland Final
Following Tipperary’s victory over Cork there will be a big demand for All Ireland Final tickets. We advise all supporters to procure tickets from any source possible as St. Patricks GAA Club doesn’t expect to be able to satisfy all the demands from within the parish. First preference will of course go to club members.
