Under 21 "B" C'ship Quarter Final: Clonmore 1-6 Fenagh 2-10

November 8, 2018

Clonmore made a very tentative start to this game and allowed Fenagh to race into a 1-4 to 0-0 lead after 13 minutes. After the Selectors made a few positional changes, things started to improve and we matched them score for score till the end. Driven on by strong leadership from Anthony Byrne, Sean Doyle, Adam Byrne and Jordan Kane, we gradually got ourselves back into the game.

Points by Adam, a pointed "45" by Anthony and long range free by Anto went straight to the net on the stroke of half-time to leave the score 1-5 to 1-2 at the break. With Jason Byrne, Cian Heffernan, Andrew Byrne, Josh Bowes and Larry Doyle rising to the challenge,Clonmore took the game to the "Moll Bennetts" and further points by Adam (2) and Anthony kept us within striking distance.

On 50 minutes there was only 3 points between the sides – 1-7 to 1-4, but poor passing and a litany of wides scuppered our chances of victory and Fenagh finished the stronger, scoring a goal on the stroke of full-time.

The club would like to send condolences to the Kane and Doyle families on the death of Mary Kane (nee Doyle), grandmother of Jordan, on Saturday morning. May she rest in peace. As a mark of respect, there was a minute's silence before the game. Well done to Jordan for showing great courage and committment to take his place as Captain of the team in spite of the sad circumstances. Unfortunately, Jordan picked up a knock to the head during the game and had to leave the field for treatment but is recovering well.
