Under 21 Championship

November 8, 2018

Our under 21 Hurlers lost out to Thomas Davis in the semi final of the Championship,  when Davis’s scored the winning goal in injury time of extra time. The final score was Olaf’s 1- 17 Thomas Davis 4-10

Olafs started the game very slowly and were behind at half time by 7 points. Davis’s who were playing on their home pitch and playing with a strong wind were first to every ball and Olafs looked really sluggish. It looked like the epic battles with Ballinteer were taken their tole. But in the second half and playing with the wind we began really well and David Lynch scored a great point right at the start. We completely dominated the second half and Davis’s only scored one point in the half. The Davis’s goalkeeper made some great saves to keep them in the game. One was a penalty from Donal Kinsella and another when he saved at point blank range from Declan O Dwyer. We didn’t get the scores we deserved and at full time it was a draw. In the first period of extra time Davis’s again playing with the wind went a goal and a point in front before we hit back with three lovely points one from lynch and two from O Dwyer. With only a point between us it looked good for Olaf’s going into the second period of extra time. We went on the attack from the start and after exchanging points we eventually went into the lead with time up. But in fairness to Davis’s they never gave up and with overtime in extra time almost up they scrambled the ball to the Olaf’s net.

This is the last game at under age level for the majority of this Olaf’s team. They have played for Olaf’s from under 10 and have been without doubt the best team we have ever produced at under age level. They have won many trophies in those years including the Dublin hurling Feile na Gael and Dublin Hurling Championships at minor and under 21 level. They also won  football and hurling leagues at under 10, 11. 12, 13 and 14.
We congratualate them and all their mentors for all the great displays and entertainment they have given us down the years and look forward to them bringing simular success to Olaf.s at senior and junior level.
