It was a crushing blow to Olaf’s as they had come back from the brink of defeat with fourteen men to go into the lead by a point before the end of normal time. Then the referee gave Ballinteer a free which they put over the bar to draw the game in normal time.
Olaf’s had started the game very badly and failed to score in the first half in which Ballinteer scored 5 points. In the second half Olaf’s showed their class, they seemed to come to life after they had a man sent off and they slowly began to get on top. Declan O Dwyer who was not on from the start because of injury came on for the injured Chris Fennell and even playing with an injury Deco made a huge contribution, he turned the whole game when he scored a great goal.
In extra time Olafs were well on top with minor players Dennis Kelleher, Colly Kyne Delaney, goalkeeper Mick O’Connor, Shane Mulvey and David Lynch having a big influence on game. Others to shine were David Howley at full back and Fergal Martin at centre back.
