Mari Mina Premier Division

Brideview have had a couple of fine victories in the past couple of week against the top sides in the division and the games are coming thick and fast as they travel to another high flying team in Blackwater FC next Sunday.

Valley Rangers 1 Brideview Utd 2
Brideview travelled to local rivals Valley Rangers for the last game of 2012 and came away with all three points. Valley were in top form after disposing of Youghal the week before and a victory for them over Brideview would have them in the driving seat come the NewYear. United sprung into action and were awarded a penalty when Thomas Ryan was taken down and William Curley made no mistake from the spot. Valley give them their dues came back into the game and tested Billy Sheehan on a number of occasions but he was equal to them. The sides went in a the break 0-1. The second half saw Valley equalise with 20mins to go. With 5mins left on the clock United earned a corner and the Valley cleared only to find Stephen Pratt who spread the ball to Paul O Brien who raced down the wing and delivered a perfect cross to Aaron Pratt who headed home. United held out to win 2-1.

Brideview Utd 3 Youghal 0
Brideview turned in a terrific first half display to defeat Youghal at Brideview Park last Sunday. In an entertaining first half Brideview found themselves 3-0 up with 26mins on the clock. The first came from a free kick. John Paul Grey stepped up to take it from 40 yards out and his blistering shot was too hot to handle for the Youghal keeper who hand only deflected it from the crossbar back over the line. Minutes later Grey found Thomas Ryan who curled the ball home and it was Ryan again who made it three midway through the first half. Youghal had to do all the attacking now and earned a penalty but were unable to convert dragging the ball to the Joe Keefe side of the Woodview Park End. Both sides failed to add to the score line despite Ryan coming close again and also having a penalty claim turned down. United brought on Michael Curley late on who was returning from injury and he will be a welcome addition to the cause in the coming weeks.
