Vandalism at Dublin Road Pitch

November 8, 2018

The Club committee is saddened and concerned about the wanton damage to our new pitch at Dublin Road caused by a malicious fire in the early hours of Saturday 27th June, a fire that was still smoldering more than 24hrs later.

The new pitch was bought and constructed by money raised in our local community by dedicated club members to improve Gaelic-playing facilities in the town. This is an attack not only on St Malachy’s GAC but also on the entire local community.Plans are also at an advanced stage to build a second training pitch at this location with floodlighting for both pitches. We will not be deterred by this act of vandalism against our club and the local people who have supported all our fund raising efforts.

The PSNI are presently investigating this attack with a view to prosecutions and the club will also separately pursue a civil case of trespass against any individuals on our premises at the time this damage took place.

The pitches are private property in the ownership of St Malachy’s GAC and permission is required from the Club Committee before any person or person can use or enter these grounds.
