Waterford 0 Drogheda United 0

November 7, 2018

The Drogs made the long journey to Waterford on Saturday and came away with a deserved point despite strong opposition from the home team.

Following two defeats, the Drogs management rang a few changes which freshened up the team considerably and this was an altogether better all round team performance. Ciaran O’Connor came into central defence and Cashman, O’Brien and Sean O’Connor proved to be a solid midfield. Up front John Murray showed his capabilities as lone striker and he was ably assisted by Majoli on the right and Coleman on the left.

On a good pitch in good weather, the Drogs had the best of the first half exchanges, with most of their chances coming from the inventive play of Majoli down the right.

The teams went in for the half-time break at 0-0 and the second half developed into a midfield battle with the home team pressing strongly to make the breakthrough and the Drogs midfield holding firm. Sean Dunne made a good save midway through the half to keep the Drogs in the game. As time ran out, the Drogs had a few chances, mostly long range efforts from the edge of the box, and in the 80th minute Jonathan Coleman had the visitors best chance, but rushed his shot. O good overall team performance, next match Wednesday Night 19th Sept at Hunky Dorys Park, kick –off 8.00pm.
