Congrats: To Nenagh Camogie U16s on winning the county final vs Kilruane on Saturday last and the Community Games team for reaching the All Ireland final where only a last minute goal in extra time deprived them of victory vs. Athenry.
U10’s are training on Mondays and Thursdays 5:30 to 6:30. We had another blitz in the Ragg last Saturday. We had a large turnout of girls and this showed with some great performances winning all four of their matches against Moyle rovers, Thurles, Drom and Holycross. We would encourage any girl interested in playing camogie to come to the Training and get involved.
U12’s. The U/12s are training on a Monday and Thursday Evening. The u/12 go games blitzes are to be run off during September. We had a very good challenge game v Silvermines last Friday. Thanks to the mines for this game.
U14s. The U/14s are training on Mondays and Thursdays. We had a very quiet week with no matches due to the U/16 final. We have U/13 and U/14 semi finals coming up so we ask all girls to keep up the briilant effort they have put in all year for a few more weeks. Details of matches will be given at training.
U16’s: Our U/16 final was played in the ragg last Saturday and it turned out to be an excellent day for Nenagh. The first half started very even with Kilruane playing an extra girl in the middle of field and trying to crowd out that area. It took about 10 mins for the game to settle down and it was around this time Nenagh got the first score with a goal from Grace O’Brien. Nenagh never looked back after this and controlled the game from then on. The half back line especially captain Zoey Gratton dominated and kept repelling any attacks. Kilruane tapped over a free but Nenagh through Holly and Grace got 2-2 without reply. Aisling O’Brien at centre forward was having a mighty game and her work rate and distribution was the reason for most of these scores. At half time the score was 3-3 to 0-1. The second half was more of the same with Nenaghs back very much on top but with kilruane playing with an extra girl back our scoring chances were hard to come by. The game was tough and tight but also very fair with both teams giving everything but as it wore on Nenagh’s fitness and work rate shone through. The snuffed out any attack and used the ball intelligently to set up chances at the other end. We were a bit wasteful towards the end but we added a few points including a fine score from Hazel Mcauliffe to run out winners by 3-6 to 0-1. It was a very proud County Board Officer Pat Sheridan who presented the trophy to Zoey Gratton. This has always been a very hard working team winning county finals up along the years. They won the Clubs first U/12 title and now the Clubs first U/16 title. Big thanks to the trainers, mentors and first Aiders Denise Morris Kieran O’Brien, Louise Hickey and Mikey McNamara. Thanks to the Mams, dads and the Hi-B for the food provided back in the Complex after a noisy and well received parade around the town.
