JAFC: Congratulations to our Junior A footballers who won the North Championship on Saturday evening last, defeating Inane Rovers by the narrowest of margins. Trailing by three points in injury time, Sean Healy got the all important goal to take the game to extra time and held out for a one point victory. Final score Eire Og 1-10 Inane Rovers 2-06. We now play Ballingarry this Saturday next at 2.30pm in Holycross in the County Quarter final.
JCHC Final: Our Junior C team play Shannon Rovers in the North Final on Sunday in Puckane at 1pm.
U16: After a thrilling and sporting County final, we were defeated by a very strong Durlas Og team by 1-19 to 1-15 in Roscrea on Saturday last. The boys were slow to settle and were down by 8 points midway through the first half, after a strong rally we were down by just 4 pts at HT, 1-9 to 1-5. The second half had brilliant hurling from both teams, aided by sensible refereeing by Kickham’s referee Fergal Horgan, with both teams getting excellent scores. We got back to within a point of Durlas Og on 6 occasions and were just 1 point behind with 2 mins left, however Durlas Og’s extra strength showed in the end with them adding 3 points to finish the game. The club is proud of this team, of which 11 of the starting team are underage again next year with 4 U14s also featuring. This team came from not winning any game at U14 level and their attitude to training and improving their game is an example to all. Many thanks to Con Morris, Mikey McNamara and Greg Browne for all they did for the boys, to Eddie Hynes as physio, to Gerard O’Gorman for his kind sponsorship, to Martin Morris and his staff for the team meal, and the Parents and families of the boys for their support during a great year. Well done to the Roscrea club on their excellent arrangements for the final.
Handball: Juvenile handball coaching takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm, we would like to see as many newcomers as possible, ages 9 to 16.
U8: We had our end of year party in Jumpin Gyms on Saturday last which was enjoyed by all, thanks to David and the lads for organising, that concludes U8 activities for the year.
U6: Indoor training continues on Wednesday evenings at 5pm.
Camogie News
U 8s The u 8s traveled to Kilcoleman on Sunday and played two games against the home team. The standard of skills on show from both teams augers well for the future of both clubs. Afterwards they received refreshments and medals and we would like to thank Burgess for their hospitality. The end of year party for the u 8s will be held in Jump n Gyms next Friday October 22nd from 5 to 7 pm
U10s The u 10s finished their season last Friday with a party in Funworld Limerick and a great night was had by all.
U14s The season has now come to an end but it was another good year for the u14s reaching two county finals winning one against Moneygall in the B league final. They lost only one competitive match in the whole season which was the championship county final against Thurles after a mammoth struggle. Four of the Girls played on the Tipperary under 14 County team (a thank you to our own Mike Ryan who was involved with the County Coaching team), while others played on the Tipperary primary school teams. The team next year will be strengthened by the fact that over half of this years team are young enough to play u 14 again next year added to our the flow of girls from our County final winning u 12 team. A big thank you to all the girls who trained very hard and listened attentively to their coaches who were Mike Ryan Liam McGrath Tony Slattery Philip Ryan Mairead Long and Denise Morris a big thank you to the coaching team who put in a huge effort with the team.
U 16s The under 16s finished the season on a high by winning the Cis Corcoran Tournament ( the late Cis Corcoran was known as the Queen of Kildare Camogie)in Naas without conceding a single score in 4 matches. Due to other commitments we traveled with a very young squad with only 4 u 16s with the rest of the panel made up of u14s and u12s. This did not deter the girls who defeated Naobh Fionbarra ( Dublin) O Loughlin Gaels ( Kilkenny) Dunderry ( Meath) and Naas in the final. This very young team gave away a lot in size but it was their skill levels that shone through scoring 27-10 in the four games and conceding nothing. Team captain Gemma Morris picked up the Cis Corcoran trophy for her team. We would like to thank Naas Camogie club for their hospitality and also Ger Morris Philip Ryan and Kathleen McKenna for giving up their time on Saturday to travel with the team. U 18s The u 18s played their second game of their season against Moneygall on Sunday in Moneygall and came away with a heavy defeat. Moneygall were just too experienced for this young Nenagh team who were playing in the clubs second ever Minor game. Moneygall ran out 3.12 to 1-5 winners. Nenagh never gave up and gave it their all right up to the final whistle and Laura McKenna in the Nenagh goals gave a fantastic performance. The club end of year celebration is on in the Abbey Court Hotel on Friday 22nd October at 9 pm. All trainers, players and their families are invited to attend. County medals will be presented to the u 12s and u 14s on the night.
The clubs flag day will be held next Saturday and Sunday 23 and 24 October. We will need help in manning the tables and we would encourage everyone to support our flag day as we cannot function and grow this great club without finances.
