Weekly club notes

November 8, 2018

JAHC: Our junior A team recorded a hard fought one point win over Toomevara in the quarter final of the championship which was played last Friday evening.
The final score was 2.18 to 2.17. Match report can be seen on club website. Knockshegowna will provide the opposition in the semi final and this game is due to be played this weekend. See fixtures for more details.

MAHC: Our minor hurlers are due to play Kildangan this evening (Wednesday) in the championship. This game takes place in Puckane at 6pm.

Kilmacud 7's: On Saturday last, the club participated in the annual 7 a side competition hosted by the Kilmacud Crokes club in Dublin. Unfortunately we didn't qualify for the knockout stages after defeating both Clarenbridge and Shamrocks but losing to the hosts Kilmacud in the second group game.

All-Ireland Minor Final: Well done to Barry Heffernan and Killian Gleeson following a draw game in the minor final in Croke Park last Sunday. Best wishes to the lads in the replay in three weeks time.

U8: Silvermines visited us on Saturday morning last and a very enjoyable mornings hurling was had by all. Thanks to Silvermines for coming in to play us.

U10: Our U10s played in the County Blitz on Dr. Morris Park on Saturday last, thanks to all who provided transport.

U14: Our U14s were defeated in the shield competition by Roscrea last week.

U16: Our U16 hurlers won the North final last Saturday in Cloughjordan by defeating Roscrea on a scoreline of 4-21 to 0-9. Nenagh started well and were 2 points up before Roscrea had 3 scores in succession to take the lead. After a Nenagh goal, Roscrea rallied again to leave 1 point between the teams but we finished the half strongly to lead 2-10 to 0-6 at HT. In the 2nd half, we scored 2 early points followed by a goal which effectively ended the game as a contest. The backs provided our forward line with great quality ball which enabled us to take some good scores. Well done to team captain Andrew Coffey and the team and the management team of Eamon O’Brien, John Manley, Christy McLoughlin and Michael Grey for their great work. Attention now is on the County Championship where we will play the South Champions in the semi final, this game is currently scheduled for the weekend of September 28th.

Camogie news:
U8s are training on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30. We will have another blitz in September. Now that children are back to school, any girls wishing to join the club are more than welcome.
U10s are training on Mondays and Thursdays 5:30 to 6:30. We had another blitz in the Ragg last Saturday. We had a large turnout of girls and this showed with some great performances winning all four of their matches against Moyle rovers, Thurles, Drom and Holycross. We would encourage any girl interested in playing camogie to come to the Training and get involved.
U12s. The U/12s are training on a Monday and Thursday Evening.  The u/12 go games blitzes are to be run off during September.
U14s. The U/14s are training on Mondays and Thursdays.  We have U/13 and U/14 semi finals coming up so we ask all girls to keep up the briilant effort they have put in all year for a few more weeks. Details of matches will be given at training. Our County girls are in action in the All Ireland Blitz taking place in Dublin this weekend and best of luck to all involved.
U16’s:  The U/16’s are continuing to train after their great County Final win. Please return all Jerseys from the county final.
Minors: The U/18 championship started last Tuesday with a match against Silvermines.  With a few injuries and absentee’s we never got in to the game and the Mines ran out winners. We have a couple more games in this, but we need everyone available to turn up.
Junior B: Our Junior team had a busy weekend playing two championship games in less than twenty four hours. On Saturday evening we travelled to Roscrea and won on a scoreline of 4-06 to 3-03. Louise Hickey, Gemma Morris and Danielle Harrington (2) scored the goals. Our half back line of Zoey Gratton, Aileen Duggan and Alanna Morris were superb while Michelle O Dwyer worked her socks off at midfield. Special mention must go to Ciara McGrath who played her first ever championship game in goals and she pulled off a number of top class saves.
On Sunday morning Knockshegowna provided the opposition in MacDonagh Park and we won 3-13 to 0-01. Zoey Gratton, Danielle Harrington and Louise Hickey got the goals.  We are due to play Portroe in our last game group game and it’s likely to take place next weekend. Check out our facebook page for details of all games.
