Weekly News for 6/2/8

November 7, 2018

Weekly Newsletter:

There has been great interest from people requesting to receive the weekly club newsletter sent directly to their email account on Sunday evenings. Again, anyone wishing to receive their own personal emailed copy can do so by sending an email to mullaghbawn-web@armagh.gaa.ie  putting the phrase “weekly newsletter request” in the subject field. Also on the website – Thanks to those who have already emailed through photographs – obviously not all pictures can be posted up – but some have been added – please check out the gallery section of the web site for new pictures and continue to mail digital photos through to the club on mullaghbawn-web@armagh.gaa.ie

Committee Meeting: All committee members are reminded that they are invited to attend the club rooms on Monday evening 04/02/08 at 8:30 for a committee meeting.

Club Membership: Membership for 2008 is now due; Next week’s newsletter will include details of the registration night. Anyone with specific queries or wishing to register in advance of the registration night can do so by contacting the club registrar Martin Mc Kinley for more information.

Club Membership costs for the incoming year are as follows;

  • Juvenile membership – £10
  • Adult membership – £25.
  • Family Membership – £50.

Volunteers: We have been asked to request the assistance of a few of the ladies from the parish to help with underage football – particularly the U8 team. We are receiving an increasing number of young girls who wish to be part of the club and compete in underage football. We as a club are delighted with this and want to encourage their participation, in so doing we would request some female assistance – possibly a member of one of the ladies teams willing to help with the passing on of skills or just a few of the mothers agreeing that they will take it in turn to be on hand if needed. – Please contact Pat Smith (the U8 manager) for more details.

Camogie: Indoor Camogie training for primary and post primary is recommencing in football club on Thursday 7th Feb from 6.30pm until 7.30pm.
Senior Camogie training will start up again on Sun 10th Feb @
10.30am in field.

U8 Team: The industrious Pat Smith has spent the Winter months carefully detailing a rigid training schedule for his team for the forthcoming year and will be hoping to build on last years great successes. The first training session of the year is set for next Monday evening 11/02/08 from 7pm to 8pm – in the club. It will focus on basic skills and ball handling and as usual all new comers are more than welcome to come along and join in with the U8s.

Lotto: Please keep supporting our club lotto as it provides valuable money to help us invest in the future of the GAA in Mullaghbawn. Next week we will be advising members and friends on the details of how to play the club lotto on line by registering through the clubs website via a secure on line lotto provider. Please see the local club lotto page of the Cross Examiner for the most up to date details on this weeks winners.

Entertainment: Friday evening’s Quiz was a great success with the All Sorts team just managing to keep ahead of the pack and claim the accolades. The quiz threw up great debate throughout the night from each of the participating teams with heated discussion over how many people were actually in the All Sorts team to whether or not Stalactites went up or came down – for the record, as all budding geologists out there would know, they go down. Many thanks to all who participated in a very light hearted and enjoyable evenings crack and to the camogs for organising such a good nights entertainment and to the All Sorts team for donating their prize money back to the club – although there is no truth to the rumour that this generosity was inspired by the fact that they would have ended up with just £1.20 each had they shared it out amongst all the team members.

Saturday night was another good night in the club with the live music and a light supper seem going down a treat – why not come along and join us all for a good night of ceol agus craic next Saturday.

Wednesday Night is Bingo Night as usual in the club.

Underage Disco: The club are currently planning an underage disco in February for our younger members during mid term. Proceeds will help with the transport costs for underage teams throughout the forthcoming year. Watch this space next week for the final date.

Club Dinner Dance: The Annual Club Dinner dance is currently scheduled for Friday February 29th in the club. The format will be a buffet supper with music and dance to follow. Tickets will be going on sale shortly at the very reasonable price of £15 or €22.

Club Merchandise: Club merchandise will be available at the Club’s registration night or alternatively from Club Secretary Gerard Larkin – who is contactable via the clubs email address below or on 30889707. A selection of the kit offered includes the following (available for both children and adults) – Tracksuits  £35.00 – £50.00, Jerseys £25.00 Togs £10, Hoodies £25.00 – £30.00. Bags – £20. Jackets from £30. More specific details including euro prices can be found on the Club’s website.

Congratulations: Well done to Peter McDonnell and the Mullaghbawn contingent after leading Armagh to victory in the first round of the National League with a 0-14 to 1-10 victory – it would appear that Peter’s half time team talk spurred the lads into a rousing second half performance.

Also on a 100% record is the club’s Top Tipster Benny Tierney following his tips in the Irish News on Saturday – We will give him the benefit of the doubt with regard to the Fermanagh Versus Leitrim game – although I have heard that some punters were disappointed that he didn’t predict that this game would be rained off – So no pressure for the next round now that you are on a roll – Keep the tips coming Benny!

Note: Anyone wishing to contribute to the club notes or indeed contact any member of the committee can do so directly or by emailing the club on mullaghbawn-web@armagh.gaa.ie
