In Cregg last Saturday evening we held out for a deserved draw in the Senior Football League against a dogged Tuam Stars team on the score  0-9 to 1-6. Annaghdown played with the elements in the first half but got off to a poor start conceding a goal and a point in the first ten minutes. A good point by Brendan Dooley settled the nerves and we got on top with points coming from a Mike Melia free along with two from Niall Coleman and a point each from Frankie Burke and Mathias Coleman. At half time we lead by 0-6 to 1-2.   We played some good football at the start of the second half  scoring three points two pointed frees from Mike Melia and another from Mathias Coleman  to give us a four point lead but we faded out and the ‘Stars’ got back in to the game and it was all square going into the last five minutes and only for a solid display at the back we would have suffered our second League defeat. Team was: Padraic Mannion, Shane Collier, Adrian Fitzpatrick, Martin O’Neill, Brian Qualter, Paul Creaven(Capt.), Fergal Doherty, Wesley Fallon, Anthony Pender, Mathias Coleman (0-2), Niall  Coleman (0-2), Mike Melia (0-3), Frankie Burke (0-1), Michael Newell and Brendan Dooley(0-1). Sub used Kevin Keane   We have now played two games in the league and are placed two from the bottom the on one point having scored 16 points and conceded 22 giving us a minus six on the table

Annaghdown 1-11 Monivea-Abbey 2-05 .  Another windy game in Cregg on Bank Holiday Monday results in victory for Annaghdown in the Junior A Football League. Playing against the wind in the first half Annaghdown tore into Monivea scoring a goal by Aidan Burke after 5mins.   Monivea got back into the game when they converted a penalty and half time Annaghdown lead 1-4 to 1-1. Monivea worked hard and got back into the game to leave just two points between the sides with the final quarter to go but Annaghdown pulled away again and led by four before another penalty was awarded and converted. With four minutes to go a point separated the teams but Aidan Burke & Pa Joe Fahey made sure of the victory with good points.   Team was: Declan Walsh, John King, Benny Newell, Alan Curry, Noel Burke, Alan Newell (Capt.), Ian O’Dowd, Ray Newell(0-1, free), Christy Burke(0-1), Cathal Gaffney, Padjoe Fahy (0-3, 1free), Darren Newell (0-1), Neill Joyce(0-1), Vinnie Small , Aidan Burke(1-3). Well done to the Galway under 14 team last Friday evening in Cregg where they beat Mayo with a scoreline of  7.15 to 2.04. Much of the above shoreline was got by our own Rachel Murphy. A sincere thanks  to Annaghdown G.A.A. for the use of their facilities and to Collette Walsh and Martina Coen for their help with the catering after the match.   Well done to all the Annaghdown Supporters who came out to support our four club representatives on this team.  We wish them good luck in the All Ireland blitz next Saturday 12th May.
