We beat Killererin in the Senior Football championship in Tuam on Sunday evening by 0-8 to 0-7. Playing with the wind in the first half Annaghdown made good use of elements to lead at the break by five points 0-6 to 0-1. Brendan Dooley opened the scoring after three minutes, Damien Burke doubled the lead fifteen minutes later with Dooley scoring his second, a massive kick leaving Annaghdown just three points in front after twenty minutes. In this period some resolute Annaghdown defending kept Killererins nifty forwards at bay and we were fortunate to see Nickey Joyce miss an open goal chance with goalie Padraig Mannion beaten. Two points from Anthony Pender who played a stormer at wing back made it four points to no score with six minutes to go before Damien Burke had our last score of the half in injury time. Killererin did end the half with a point to leave us five points ahead and playing into the strong breeze in the second half. Annaghdown's fighting qualities where called into question in the second period which we opened brightly with Morgan Duggan pointing in first minute which was added to by sub Fergal Doherty nine minutes later. This was to prove our last score of the game as Killererin added the next six points but with Annaghdown defending brillantly time ran out on them and we held on to win one point. We had solid displays from Padraic Mannion in goal with our defence outstanding all through with Martin O'Neill giving a 'Man of the Match' display at number four, with Anthony Pender, Paul Creaven, Brian Quarter and Shane Collier solid all through. Niall Coleman was solid around the middle while up front Damien Burke, Brendan Dooley, Frankie Burke, and Mathias Coleman were best. Morgan Duggan lead by example from no 10 and was never found wanting and crowned a big display by shooting our first point against the breeze after the break. Team: Padraic Mannion, Shane Collier, Adrian Fitzpatrick, Martin O'Neill, Brian Qualter, Paul Creaven, Anthony Pender (0-2), Kevin Keane, Niall Coleman, Morgan Duggan (0-1), Wesley Fallon, Damien Burke (0-2), Mathias Coleman, Brendan Dooley (0-2), Frankie Burke.
