* Castlewellan GAC has been chosen by the Camogie Association to participate in the ‘You & Me Play Camogie’ Initiative. It will begin in the Club on today Wednesday 28 May 2014 at 7.30pm. This is a 6 week programme where parents/guardians learn the skills of the game of camogie and keep active themselves. Parents/Guardians are invited to participate in this programme. There will also be a nutritional talk on healthy eating for sports participation provided as part of the programme for both the players and the parents involved in the programme. * On Sunday June 8th the Club will hold their annual Juvenile Sponsored walk at 2pm followed by juvenile sports and Tug of War in St Malachy’s Park. Everyone is welcome. Sponsorship sheets will be made available through our juvenile coaches.
* Folks the rumours are true, Mrs Brown's Boys will be back for a Summer Sizzler on 18th and 19th of July 2014 for the third and final part of the trilogy! A brand new script with new ideas from the feedback from the first two shows promises to deliver a hilarious night’s craic in the Club! Details on ticket sales and everything else to follow in the next couple of weeks! Keep an eye out as tickets are sure to go quicker than the PRO buys and loses his!
* The Under 8 and Under 10 camogs were in St Malachy’s Park on Saturday for the regional blitz. For most of the Under 8 girls this was their first experience of match play. The girls played really well considering that this was their first taste of competitive camogie against other girls. Well done to Alise, Aine, Charley, Avia, Alisha, Ternia, Orliath and Reltian. Keep up the good work girls. The Under 10 camogs had a great run out to and were a bit unlucky against Aghaderg getting beat by a goal but had a good win over Mayobridge. Well done Corra, Orliath, Emma, Katie, Caleigh, Caoimhe, Mia and Cara. The one thing helmets in camogie cannot do is hide the big and eager smiles of the young ladies who quite obviously enjoyed their day on Saturday. Long may those smiles continue! Thank you to our young referees Nicola, Anna, Becky and Catriona. A big thanks to the parents who helped with the refreshments.
* Following on from last week’s excellent performance in the Jim Mulholland Memorial Tournament in An Riocht, our Year 6 footballers continued their excellent form in a blitz in Loughinisland on Saturday. The boys played superb football against Loughinisland, St Paul's and Dromara. One of the most pleasing features with this young team is the team work and encouragement the boys are showing towards each other. Each member of the panel once again contributed and played there part throughout a great mornings football – well done lads. Special mention goes to Eoin Cooney whom has joined the team this year and has had some great performances so far in a Town jersey.
* On Saturday our Year 4 Footballers travelled to a blitz in St Paul's in Hollywood. The young team played against Gaels from Teconnaught, Carryduff and the host club. The boys performed brilliantly in each match and can be very proud of their achievements. Well done to the panel of Conor Connolly, Shea Connolly, Tadgh Owens, Duelta Pickering, Casey Llewellyn, Gerard Dornan, Adam Dorans, Ryan McKibben, Cathaoir King, Hugh Rice & Shea Baker. Also special thanks to all the parents whom assisted with transportation.
* On Sunday morning our under 12 footballers travelled to our neighbours the Liatriom Fontenoys for a league match. Our boys came away with a great win in an entertaining game. This is a young team, of which many will be still eligible to play under 12 football next year and indeed the following year. They all performed brilliantly throughout – well done boys.
* The Seconds footballers enjoyed a good win in the All County Premiere Reserve League against league leaders Saval last Thursday evening in what turned out to be a comfortable win in the end. It didn’t start too well with the visitors tagging on 1-02 before we were able to register on the scoreboard. In fairness to the lads they dug deep and by half time we were starting to control the game the second half was one way traffic and in the end a comfortable victory.
* The Under 14 Girls football training is on Thursday at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome. There will be football games for the next four Sundays so we need all our girls out working with the management team.
* Hurling training for P3 up to Year 8 continues from 6.00pm to 7.00pm each Monday in St Malachy's Park.

* Outdoor juvenile coaching programme will continue in St Malachy’s Park every Saturday. Please bring both indoor and outdoor shoes as coaching will be inside if it rains. All new and existing members are welcome.10.00am – 10.45am St Malachy’s Park – Nursery, P1 and P2 Hurling and Camogie, P3 – P7 Camogie. 10.45am – 11.30am St Malachy’s Park – Nursery, P1 and P2 Boys Football & Girls Football and P3 to P7 Girls football. All parents are welcome and are encouraged to get involved. There will be tea and coffee in the club from 10.00am to 11.30am on the Saturday mornings.
* What is it about Newry men around our Club. Take the poor unfortunate PRO who lost his stand ticket in the roads around Pairc Esler for the Down v Tyrone replay last weekend. He had two but let his fellow Town man take the other ticket as he would not have him standing (ok he paid for it!). The nameless Newry man finds the ticket on the road and uses it himself – who would blame him. He then boasts to the masses around him he got in for free. Oh word got back ok to the PRO ok! But thank you to the Good Samaritan who gave the PRO a ticket for nothing – there’s still some decent people around Newry!
