* The Executive Committee are pleased to announce the new Senior Team Manager for 2013 will be John ‘Shorty’ Treanor. ‘Shorty’ enjoyed a long and illustrious playing career with his home club Burren and won every single football honour with his Club. His accolades are too many to mention. This scribe will always remember sitting in Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day 1988 at the All-Ireland Club Final when he drove a spectacular point over the bar in terrible weather conditions from just beneath the Hogan Stand. a score which was vital in helping Burren secure their second All-Iralnd Club Title. He will be assisted by our club coaches Barney Cunningham and Brian Dougherty. We wish them all every success for the coming season.

* A well attended informationnight was held on Sunday past in the Club Rooms for the upcoming Activ8programme. The community based Health and Fitness programme will take placeduring Lent and is designed for everyone 18-80 of all abilities. Next Tuesday12 February there will be “The Last Supper”. This is Pancake Tuesday and thereis no better way than to tuck in to a few pancakes before the fun begins on Ash Wednesday 13th February.You can also register for the event on the night. The activities will be scheduled at various times to meet the needs ofall lifestyles and ensure that there is something for everyone. The initialschedule will be posted on the club website this weekend. Cost toparticipate in the Activ8Program is £30 for the entireduration of Lent and this may be paid in two installments For this you canattend as many events as you wish. Participants will nominate which charitythey wish the organizer to donate towards.

* CastlewellanUnder 10 hurlers attended the latest hurling blitz on Sunday in the EddieIrvine centre in Bangor and two teams played 4 games against top opposition.All the lads acquitted themselves well with some great air and ground hurling. Nextweek it’s the turn of the Under 12s to attend a hurling blitz. Transport leavesclub at 10.45. Training continues on Thursday night in St Malachy’s Primary Schoolat 6.00pm for P2- P4 and 7.00pm for P5 up to Year 8.

* A child protection course will take place on Friday 8th Februaryat 7 pm in the social club. Thank you to everyone who have registered for thecourse. Anyone else wishing to complete the course please contact John O’Neillon 07711 737610

* Winter Coaching Programme forall Primary School Children commences on Tuesday 12 February 2013 inSt Malachy’s High School. Coaching for the P1 to P4 age groups will be from 6.00pmto 7.00 pm, P5 to Year 8 from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. The programme will be free toall members but membership must be paid beforehand. Membership can be paid onthe night from 5.45pm.

* There will be a juvenile (4years old to 16 year olds) registration night in the Social Club on FridayFebruary 8th from 7.15pm to 8.15pm.

* Sunday 24March 2013 sees our second annual Spring Lake Challenge. You can registeron-line for the race at www.athleticsni.orgor on the day of the event. Further details will be available nearer the eventtime.

* Membership payments are overdue. Forms are available in the cluband also can be downloaded from our website; www.castlewellangac.com. Final Payment must be made by 28thFebruary 2013.

* Anyone interested in coaching or helping out with our underageteams please contact John O’Neill on 07711737610. You can never have enoughcoaches in a club. If you wish to help out with a team or just to come alongand help, your assistance is very much appreciated.

* A reminder that onSaturday 16 February 2013 Castlewellan GAC will host the Marie Jones Play “ANight in November”. This will be performed by local actor Aaron Hickland. Tickets are on sale from the Club at £10each. It is anticipated that tickets will sell very quickly as this play hassold out virtually everywhere it has been shown. Can you please ensure youpurchase your ticket early to avoid any disappointment.

* Hurling coaching will continue on Thursday eveningsat St Malachy’s Primary School at 6.00pm. From 6.00pm to 7.00pm coaching willcater for P1 to P4 boys. 7.00pm to 8.00pm will cater for P5 to year 8 boyseligible to play U12 hurling in 2013.
