Weekly Round Up

November 8, 2018

The Barna u11 squad showed great skill and courage to win the u12b city league final in Spiddal on Sunday. They were up against a very skilful and well organised Michael Breathnachs team. On the day, they battled very hard and were down by 4 points at half time. However, they managed to turn things around for the second half and came out eventual winners. They showed skill and maturity way behind their years. This was a great squad performance, the management team are very grateful to all the parents who helped out in bringing them to training and games.

The u10s were defeated in the semi-final of the u10 city league by Claregalway last Saturday in Pearse Stadium. In a game that could have gone either way, the u10s were caught in the last few minutes by two or three scores. With five minutes to go they were five points ahead and it looked like they would hold on. However, a late come back from Claregalway was saw them grab the victory.

Claregalway duly went on to win the competition by beating Clarinbridge in the final. This was a fantastic experience for the u10s and all players played as there was a second game against the other losing semi finalists. It is great for u10s to be able to say that they played a full match in Pearse Stadium. The improvement in these players in the last three months has been excellent and hopefully in the years ahead they will be challenging for honours at their age group.

This years Cul Camps will be taking place from the 20th to the 24th of July. The club will be hosting a registration evening in the next few weeks. More info will follow at a later date.

Barna GAA would like to extend congratulations to local man Tom Curran who was elected to Galway County Council last weekend.
