Windsor Valentine Date for Dundalk!

November 8, 2018

Dundalk FC will face Linfield FC for the first time in nearly 32 years when they make their Setanta Sports Cup debut early next year, after the sides were paired in Monday’s draw in Belfast for the cross-border competition which gets underway on Saint Valentine’s Day.

Toughest draw

However, manager Ian Foster knows it will be extremely difficult to repeat that feat against the Irish League leaders. “It’s the toughest draw out there; they’re obviously the best team in Northern Ireland at the moment,” Foster exclusively told dundalkfc.com when sizing upLinfield, who have been ever-presents in the tournament since winning the inaugural one back in 2005. “It’s a very difficult one obviously with the timing of the competition as well because they’re midway through their season. It’s going to be a difficult game but it’s a fantastic opportunity for my players to get up to match practice in pre-season. It’s going to be difficult but we’re thrilled because in these cup competitions you want to play the big teams, and we’ve certainly got that.”
